Voneus teams up with Walney Island authorities to bring better, reliable broadband
29th April 2024
29th April, London: Rural broadband specialists Voneus are working with a local MP to roll out gigabit broadband on Walney Island.
Voneus’ delivery of ultrafast connectivity will support the island’s economic development.
Voneus’ gigabit wireless technology uses existing infrastructure to form a wireless broadband network that delivers proven gigabit speeds. The rollout of the network is efficient and quick as it does not rely on digging up roads and blocking streets with road closures.
Residents of Walney Island will finally be able to switch to better, more reliable broadband by the summer.
Residents on Walney Island were surveyed by Simon Fell MP and have welcomed the plans. One resident stated, “My work from home can be intensive, and requires a far better connection”.
Simon Fell MP said, “I first met Voneus as part of their work on the Solway Coast and I explained the challenges we’ve faced in bringing ultrafast broadband to Walney Island, which is frankly baffling given that over 10,000 people call it home. Thankfully, Voneus agreed to look into a solution for my constituents and I’m delighted we’ve been able to work with them to make it a reality. I wrote to all the residents of Walney and the result of the survey was clear people wanted and needed better broadband.
“I look forward to working with Voneus to get this service rolled out and speaking to local residents about the benefits they are seeing once it is.”
Simon and Voneus are hosting a drop-in at Walney High School’s Innovation Centre on 17th May from 2-5pm and all residents are invited. It will be a chance for them to talk to representatives from Voneus to find out what better broadband will mean for them.
John Richardson Walney School Headteacher said, “When Voneus approached us to ask if our school would like to play a part in helping to bring gigabit broadband to the community we were delighted. As a central part of the local community, we want to do all we can to support high speed online access which will help our students and their families access online learning both within school and at home.”
Voneus’ CEO Christopher Traggio said, “Nearly 5 million households in the UK have joined the switch to better broadband – and now residents and businesses of Walney can join them.”
“Voneus shares MP Simon Fell’s view on what a difference better, solid and reliable broadband can make in rural areas like Walney Island. We have thousands of customers - young householders, parents and grand-parents – who have all joined the switch to better broadband. And now Walney residents can be part of this too, and see what better broadband can mean for them.”
