Island footballers kick off new season in Voneus kit
A team from Walney Island Football Club kicked off the season in a brand new kit, thanks to specialist rural broadband provider Voneus.
6th August 2024The Club’s 1st team, who play in Division 2 of the West Lancashire League, launched their 24/25 campaign on Saturday with a stunning 3-0 win over Storeys - sporting their new kit sponsored by Voneus.
Based at Tummerhill Playing Fields on Ocean Road, the thriving club boasts three senior teams as well as junior teams in most age groups.
1st team coach Steve Brennan said: “We are very grateful to Voneus for their support because as a self-funded club we rely heavily on businesses to sponsor new kits and equipment.
“The community has worked really hard to try to improve facilities on Walney and thanks to so many parents wanting to get involved, the club has grown substantially.
“We’re really looking forward to the new season and improving on our 4th position last year, and thanks to Voneus we know we’re going to look the part.”

Voneus are currently bringing innovative, state-of-the-art wireless technology to Walney Island, with gigabit broadband rolled out to more than 4,700 homes.
Voneus partnered with Cambium Networks and it is Cambium’s largest network of its kind in Europe. The project was only possible with the support of Westmorland and Furness Council.
It’s taken just 8 weeks from the start of build to the first Walney Island residents being connected.
