Community groups make use of ultrafast broadband
Fibre broadband to scout HQ gets the thumbs up from wide variety of groups
23rd July 2024A wide range of community groups in Bedale are enjoying better broadband thanks to a free ultrafast fibre connection from Voneus.
As one of the UK’s largest providers of fast, reliable internet to hard-to-reach communities, Voneus has connected 250 Mbps of full fibre at Bedale Scouts & Guides HQ in Bedale, North Yorkshire.
Scout and Guide Group Secretary Sarah Myles says the connection is already having a big impact.
“We have four Scouting and three Guiding sections meeting regularly in our HQ building, with a membership totalling around 120 young people,” said Sarah.
“They've all been making great use of the broadband in their sessions, but specific examples so far include our Beavers section using it for their IT and Communication badge work, and our Pioneer Scouts using it for their Aviation badge work.”
Voneus is currently bringing full fibre broadband to homes and businesses in and around North Allerton. Full fibre uses fibre optic cables that run directly to your front door to deliver reliable, uninterrupted internet at speeds up to 29x faster than standard broadband.
Chief commercial officer at Voneus, Francesca Lee, said: “We were keen to recognise the vital role The Bedale Scouts & Guides HQ plays in supporting such a wide range of groups within the community.
“Being part of the local community in which we are bringing our ultrafast fibre broadband is very important to us, and it makes us proud to know that the connection we have donated to the hall will be of benefit to so many organisations.”
Other regular users of the HQ who have benefitted from the Voneus connection are the Aiskew Under Fives Pre-School, who say that the broadband has made it ‘much easier’ to conduct their Early Years planning, as well as the admin work for their registered charity.
While Scout and Guide Group Secretary Sarah added: “Our HQ building is often used by organisations to deliver training sessions.
“The first of these to make use of the newly installed Voneus Broadband was a Traffic Management training course for Bedale Scouts volunteers and members of the community (funded by the Bedale & Villages Community Forum), which enabled us to provide safe and effective traffic management for the Bedale Remembrance Day Parade. Without this training session, the Parade would have been prohibitively expensive.
“This is a great example of the way Bedale Scouts & Guides Group works with the rest of the community to provide essential support, and how the installation of Voneus Broadband in our HQ building has a broader local impact.”
Voneus is currently bringing better broadband to hard to reach communities right across the UK.
